Tierra Majrit community cultural center was planted in 2021 in a city in northern Spain—in the middle of a large Muslim community from Morocco in North Africa. Tierra Majrit means “The Land of Abundant Waters.” Majrit means “the water runs through” in Arabic.
B. and M. (For security reasons, we are only using their initials.) are the founders of this multi-purpose, community cultural center, and their vision is to create a safe, multi-cultural space for community development, where people from all over the world of different nations, languages, cultures, religions, and people groups can gather for exchange, friendship, fun, and learning. B. and M. want to empower men, women, and children (immigrants, refugees, and survivors of trafficking) by giving them skills to help grow as individuals, families, and communities.
Some of the current activities at the center include: Kids’ English Club, monthly women’s breakfasts, women’s craft classes, women’s exercise classes, women’s Spanish conversation classes, women’s sewing project, micro enterprises with Iranian refugees (embroidery business), bi-weekly Iranian refugee outreach activities, and weekly meetings held by a partnering local evangelical church.
Volunteers from local churches and mission organizations help to teach and run the various center activities.
FUTURE:
This fall, B. and M. plan to open a weekly thrift shop in the center, offering reasonably-priced, recycled clothes, toys, and housewares. This will allow them to open the center's doors, establish a visible community presence, and meet a felt-need in the immigrant community. They will sell coffee/tea and baked goods made by the Moroccan women who attend the center’s activities. They will also sell the products made by the women in the sewing and craft classes. Profits from the thrift shop will go to the Strawberry Girls anti-trafficking non-profit organization that rescues and advocates for Moroccan women caught up in sex trafficking through the strawberry industry of Spain.
URGENT NEED:
$1515.00/month, $18,000/year is needed to keep the center open.
We ask that you please pray for B., M., their team of volunteers, and for the Lord's will for this cultural community center. They are currently in a critical place where they may have to shut the center down due to lack of funding to keep it open and operating.
The Tierra Majrit is a lighthouse in the darkness, a "Land of Abundant Waters," and an oasis in a dry and weary place. May God miraculously provide so that the doors can remain open and they can continue to be a blessing to those in need in the community!
